I have just started to backup my dvd`s using dvd decryptor, ifoedit and recordnow. I am having good success but i now want to be able to keep the main menu of movies. I don`t want the extras or owt like that but it would be nice to be able to keep the movie menu. I see that Ifoedit has a menu extra`s button but i don`t understand how you use it. Please make any replys understandable. Please Help..
Keeping Menu`s

Usually the menu is in video_ts.vob and the vts_xx_0.vob of the movie title-set.
In those simple cases you just have to copy those .vob files in the new VIDEO_TS-folder that you want to burn.
Don't forget the 'Get VTS-Sectors' Button.
You can test it with the dvd-play button in ifoedit, if you open the video_ts.ifo.
The menu extra button allows you to strip out selected Menu-ID's, which you don't want to keep. -
Didn`t Work. I think i did it right. I put my movie in, let dvd decryptor pick the main movie files, run ifoedit, get vob extra`s, get vts sectors and it`s done. You then say i need to get the menu files and copy to my video ts folder and not to forget get the vts sectors??? so should i ifoedit before i put the menu files in or after, if after what file do i ifoedit.... This is getting really confusing when all i want to do is backup my movies... HELP ME !

I dont' use DVD Decryptor, that could be the problem.
A simple way is to do a complete backup of the dvd, I use Smartripper to do the job.
Then you can choose freely, what parts of the dvd you want to keep.
With Ifoedit you can identify which titlesets (vts_xx_y.vob 'xx' is the title) you need to play the movie with the menu. After 'DVD Play' ifoedit tells you which Titlesets were used.
Now you copy those files to your new folder, which you want to burn.
Example:
There are the files
Video_ts.*
Vts_01_*.*
Vts_02_*.*
Vts_03_*.*
Vts_04_*.*
Let's say ifoedit uses the titles 2 and 4 to play the movie.
Now copy the files
Video_ts.*
Vts_02_*.*
Vts_04_*.*
to your new folder.
To keep the structure also copy only the .ifo and .bup of Vts_01_*.* and Vts_03_*.*
After doing that use Get vts sectors button and the 'dvd' in your new folder should be playable.
If the resulting folder is to large to burn, you have the option to strip out unwanted streams (audio/subtitle) with ifoedit vob extras.
Good luck.Comment

Arrgghhhhhhhhh
Still no good mungo. I managed to get it to work by following your instructions but the film was too big. So i ran it through IFOEDIT and the film lost it`s menu. I then went and copied the files you mentioned back to the new directory but still no good even after getting VTS sectors. It started to load but then came up with a navigation error. Do you have a descent step by step guide as i can`t find one. Also is there a setting in ifoedit that allows you to have a bigger screen size and not letterbox?? By the way used smartripper and no difference. HELP !!Comment

"I managed to get it to work by following your instructions but the film was too big. "
Do I understand corrcectly that the dvd worked after the copying including the menu and the only problem is the size of the folder?
If so, then you're almost there.
Sorry for the step-by-step guide but I don't have one.
All you have to do is to strip out unwanted streams with ifoedit.
You do that by opening the vts_xx_0.ifo of your movie-titleset.
Now you can strip out the streams with the vob-extras button.
More details and screenshots should be available in the guides on digital-digest.
The important point is that you save the resulting files in a new folder. After ifoedit has finished the task copy the files back to the other folder, which you already tested.
Now the size should be reduced and the menu-vobs should still be there. After 'get vts-sectors' the dvd (in ifoedit with dvd play - button) should play without problem and you can burn it.
If the folder is still too large, you can reencode the movie with a lower bitrate which takes a lot of time and knowledge I don't have, others in the forum should be able to help you with that.
I don't know how the screensize can be changed in ifoedit.
Good luck for the next try.Comment

hi i hope i can help
well first of all i usually use smartripper to backup the dvd on hd.
then look if the dvd fits on a dvd or reencode if not.
if this is done just remove the original vobs with the ones you downsized.
you now have a video_ts folder with the original dvd files structure except the vobs which you reencoded right?
next step is to run the ifoedit vob extras point on all vob.ifos you reencoded (downsized), usually Vts_01_0.ifo etc.....
then ifoedit says finished correcting vbu pointers or something like that. now save the .ifos you have changed by pressing save and clicking yes on the follwing popup windows( bup will be saved as well, bla bla bla)
after doing vob extras on each ifo you downsized the vobs, you should exit ifoedit and restart again ifoedit, don´t know exactly why.
restart ifoedit, open Video_ts.ifo and get Vts sectors.
ifoedit will change some ifos and also the Video_ts.
after ifoedit is finished you have to look at the upper window of ifoedit, and you´ll see which ifos, Video_ts, etc. ifoedit changed by pressing get Vts sectors.
it is important that u now save all those ifos, and the video_ts by pressing save for each of them.
voila restart ifoedit again, open the Video_ts file again and try playback in ifoedit.
hope this helps...Comment

You might also try DVD95COPY program DVD95COPY Take a look. Their offering allows the extras, and menu to be compressed and keeps the movie less compressed for fitting onto a DVD5 video. I use it all the time! Very good video quality too!Vernon Jenewein

Hey Vernon,
Dvd95Copy?? I have just tried this on Majestic and it was wicked. I then did Road To Perdition and it didn`t work, not on PC, Dvd or X-Box. Does this program only do certain films or what??
A somewhat confused person??
I am using x4 media on a Pioneer 105 and at £2 a disk i feel a bit reluctant to try this program again??Comment

I've got "Road to Perdition" here I did on DVD95COPY. Turned out great. There is a new update 1.2.4 that is available for registered users. I've not run across a movie that it doesn't do yet. Now it's even better in it's selection.
Their forum site DVD95COPY FORUM also has some news and updates.
Perhaps it was the way it was burned? I use Nero 5.5.10.15a version.Vernon Jenewein
